What Uhoho does

Automatic rider verification

Every rider must submit their phone number, full name, South African ID number, and a selfie before they can book. Verification is automatic — no manual review needed.

Driver control

Before accepting a ride, drivers see the rider’s verified name, photo, and rating. Drivers can accept or reject any booking, and give a reason if they decline.

Real-time tracking

Live GPS tracking throughout the trip for both riders and drivers. Share your live location with a contact for added safety.

SOS & incident tools

A one-tap SOS button is always visible during trips. Drivers can log incidents directly in the app with timestamps and details for reporting.

Cash-first model

Riders pay drivers directly in cash or by arrangement — Uhoho is not involved in ride payments. This keeps things simple and cuts out the middleman.

Trip history & logs

Riders get a full trip history. Drivers get a detailed trip log for their records, useful for managing earnings and resolving disputes.

Who Uhoho is for

Uhoho is built for South African drivers who are tired of platforms that favour riders over drivers. Whether you’re a full-time driver or do rides on the side, Uhoho gives you the tools to vet who gets in your car before you commit to a booking.

For riders, Uhoho offers a straightforward booking experience. The verification requirement means everyone on the platform has been through an identity check — making the ride safer for both sides.

Why driver protection matters in South Africa

South Africa’s ride-hailing market has a real problem: drivers bear the greatest risk but have the least control. Incidents involving drivers have become common, yet most platforms offer little more than a support ticket.

Uhoho is designed around the principle that drivers should know who they’re picking up. Mandatory ID verification, selfie matching, and per-ride accept/reject decisions give drivers meaningful protection — not a checkbox disclaimer.

Frequently asked questions

Is Uhoho free to use?
Uhoho is free for riders. Drivers start with a free trial. After that they pay a weekly fee based on how far they drove that week, by card (PayFast) or Bitcoin. Weeks with no trips are free. There is no app store, no download and no commission on fares.
How does rider verification work?
Riders submit their phone number (OTP verified), full name, South African ID number, and a selfie. Verification is automatic — once all fields are complete, the account is approved. Unverified riders cannot request a booking.
Can a driver reject a rider?
Yes. Before accepting a booking, drivers see the rider's verified name, photo, and rating. They can reject the booking and optionally provide a reason. Drivers are not penalised for rejecting a ride.
How does the driver fee work?
New drivers get a free trial. After it, Uhoho bills every Monday for the week before, in tiers by kilometres driven — the more you drive, the higher the tier. A week with no trips costs nothing. You pay in the app by card (PayFast) or Bitcoin (Lightning), and you can take new rides again as soon as the fee is paid.
Does Uhoho handle money between rider and driver?
No. Riders pay drivers directly — in cash or by any arrangement they agree on. Uhoho is not involved in ride payments. The only payment through the platform is the driver’s weekly fee.
